Reporting a Crime.
If the crime is ongoing call 999, you should not put yours or anyone else’s safety at risk by taking action yourself.
Calling 999 will initiate a response, the emergency services call centre will take the details including
• Your details if you are happy to give them.
• Details of what is happening
• Location
If you have given your details you will be asked to give a statement.
Not all crimes are ongoing the majority of thefts are reported after the crime has taken place.
When reporting a non-emergency crime, you can either attend a police station or call 101.
Unless the crime is being committed at the time or you feel someone or something is in danger you should always use the 101 number.
For matters such as anti-social behaviour or hate crimes you should follow the same advice, if in any doubt call 999.

Formed over 25 years ago as a charity allowing people across the UK to report crimes anonymously.
You can call crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 to report a crime or visit them online and complete their ‘give information form’.
Many people do not like to involve the police and are intimidated by the whole process; Crimestoppers offers a different approach to ensure everyone feels comfortable coming forward.
